Born in Ixelles on 10 April 1844, died at his home on Place Saint Paul in Nivelles on 01 March 1897. Son of VILLARD de BURLET<\/strong> Joseph Dieudonn\u00e9 and DUGNIOLLE<\/strong> Louis and Jeanne Julie Jos\u00e9phine.

A Belgian Catholic politician, he began his political career at the age of 21. A doctor of law, he has<\/span>fter studying law and being appointed Doctor of Law at the Catholic University of Louvain in 1866, Jules de BURLET became a lawyer in Nivelles (1866-1872), then a deputy judge at the Court of 1st Instance in Nivelles (1872-1892). Elected to the town council in 1871, he was the only representative of the Catholic party and was chosen by the King \"to preside over the destiny of the town of Nivelles (1 July 1872)\" until 1891.<\/span>A member of the Catholic Party, he represented Nivelles in the Belgian House of Representatives from 1884. He was \"Minister of the Interior and Fine Arts\" in 1891. He was not in favour of universal suffrage, and his attitude led to the general strike of April 1893 in favour of universal suffrage.

Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary of His Majesty the King of the Belgians Leopold 2 to His Majesty the King of Portugal and the Algarves, lawyer, former Mayor of the town of Nivelles, former Minister of the Interior and Public Education, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, former member of the Chamber of Representatives and the Senate, Grand Officer of the Order of Leopold, Grand Cordon of the Orders of the Legion of Honour, of Saint Michael, of the Polar Star, of the Star of Romania, of Our Lady of the Conception of Villa Vicosa of Civil Merit of Bulgaria, Commander of the Order of Saint Gregory the Great, decorated with the Cross pro Ecclesia et Pontifice, domiciled in Nivelles. owner<\/span><\/p>\n

In 1894, he was elected senator and later became Prime Minister of Belgium.<\/span><\/p>\n

After leaving office in 1896 and resigning on 21 February 1896 following a stroke on 19 December 1895, he was appointed Minister of State and served as Ambassador to Portugal from 1896 until his death in 1897.<\/span><\/p>\n
