Introduced to break with monarchical and religious traditions, it aimed to re-found society, even in the way it measured time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #800080;\"><strong>Origins and historical context<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The Republican calendar is adopted by the <strong>National convention<\/strong> at <strong>1793<\/strong>, at the height of the French Revolution. Its starting point was retroactively set at <strong>22 September 1792<\/strong>, date of the proclamation of the Republic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The objective is clear:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Dechristianise<\/strong> the Gregorian calendar,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Streamline<\/strong> time according to the principles of the Enlightenment,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Anchoring the company in values <strong>republican, scientific and agricultural<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The design of the calendar was entrusted in particular to the poet <strong>Fabre d'\u00c9glantine<\/strong>, who came up with the names of the months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">On the tenth day, the <strong>decadi<\/strong>, This replaces Sunday as the day of rest.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Each day is named after a <strong>plant, animal or agricultural tool<\/strong>, reinforcing the rural symbolism.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
