An opera was performed in 5 acts \"La muette de Portici de <a href=\"http:\/\/www.musicologie.org\/Biographies\/auber_daniel.html\">Daniel Esprit Fran\u00e7ois <strong>AUBERT<\/strong><\/a> (1782-1871), to the words of <a href=\"http:\/\/marthe-peyroux2.azurewebsites.net\/\/Scribe.htm\">Eug\u00e8ne <strong>SCRIBE<\/strong><\/a> (1791-1861) and <a href=\"https:\/\/data.bnf.fr\/fr\/12268158\/germain_delavigne\/\">Louis Marie Germain <strong>DE LA VIGNE or DELAVIGNE<\/strong> (1790-1868<\/a>) . This work was the starting point for the Belgian revolution. It describes on stage a revolt in Portici near Naples in the 17th century against Spanish domination. The Belgian people were also familiar with this situation at the time. In Act 3 following Scene 4, played by the tenor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lamonnaiebelge.be\/inspiration\/le-blog-de-maarten\/154-muette-de-portici\">Jean Fran\u00e7ois <strong>LAFEUILLADE<\/strong><\/a> he shouted \"To arms, to arms! The enthusiastic audience rose to its feet and sang \"National, national! \" . Within a few days, total anarchy ensued. Brussels was looted and burnt. The inhabitants of the various regions\u00a0<span style=\"text-align: left; color: #333333; text-transform: none; text-indent: 0px; letter-spacing: normal; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; word-spacing: 0px; display: inline !important; white-space: normal; cursor: text; orphans: 2; float: none; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; background-color: transparent;\">is organised<\/span>nt.
