Wavre, 1ster September 2026 – As the new school year gets underway, the association GeniWal (non-profit organisation) is relaunching its activities and invites history enthusiasts, students and anyone with a keen interest to take on a unique challenge: «Tracing our family history together». With tracing one’s family history emerging as one of the Belgians’ favourite pastimes, the Walloon club is opening its doors to guide everyone through this great family treasure hunt.
Thanks to its cutting-edge digital tools and its support network, GeniWal (non-profit organisation) enables us to easily transcend the boundaries of local and national history.

Our services and activities for the start of the 2026 academic year
The association offers comprehensive support for both amateur and experienced genealogists:
The Isadora digital ecosystem
- A high-performance surname search engine developed by the non-profit organisation.
- A collaborative platform enabling volunteers to index photographs of archival documents.
- Direct access to the online results databases for members.
Training courses and practical workshops
- An Introduction to Plug-ins : Getting to grips with key tools such as Généatique and Heredis.
- Learn about genealogy with *The ABCs of Genealogy* which sets out the basics for tracing one’s family history.
- Palaeography course : Learning how to decipher old handwriting in parish registers.
- Personalised help : Blockage sessions to overcome the «walls of our ancestors».
- Interpreting DNA test results (Coming soon) : Learning how to interpret the results of DNA tests.

How it works by credits :
In order to make research more accessible, GeniWal offers a system from credits :
Each member receives a credit initial when registering or renewing
Some credits additional can be obtained in return for a financial contribution.

Office hours every Tuesday from 9.00 am to 12.00 pm and a meeting every 2nde Every Saturday of the month from 2 pm to 5 pm.
When we reopen our branch, we’ll be welcoming you every Saturday in September and October.
