Entrust your genealogical research to our association
As part of our services, all our genealogical research is carried out at the Kingdom's General Archives by members experienced in genealogical research. Your requests can be submitted to us via the deed shop form.
Our association offers 5 formulas:
Discovery package
Through your annual membership (from date to date) of our GéniWal association:
- 35 for residents of Belgium,
- 35 for European residents (membership includes unlimited access to our databases,
- free search per year from date to date for 2 ancestors' deeds who gave you your name in Belgium, which you can then add to yourself, for example).
Searches are carried out on the basis of precise information provided to us. This offer "Discovery is also a very good way of improving your family tree, and will give you a good basis for further research into your Belgian ancestors.
Discovery plus package (*)
You decide to continue your research according to your expectations and your budget. We will draw up a quote for your additional research at the pace you decide, with no commitment on our part as to how long it will take. The price is 3 € per act for members and 12 € per record for non-members (a deposit of 25% is required before the research begins). Decreasing rate according to the number of records researched The price is intended to cover travel expenses incurred in the course of research.
Form for searching civil status records from 1910 onwards
You want to research ancestors after 1910. This option is now available for the price of 12 € per transaction. This package is not included in the discovery package or in the free search.
Choice of 3, 4, 7 or more generations of family tree(*)
Adapted, for example, to the budget you set yourself for your genealogy project
- 3 generations : 100 for members, €200 for non-members (25% deposit required before research begins).
- 4 generations : 200 for members, €300 for non-members (25% ' deposit required before research begins).
- 7 generations : 500 for members, €600 for non-members (a deposit of 25% is required before the research begins).
- 9 generations consult the ...Bonus from GéniWal... Birth, marriage and death records will be searched for each person. Please note that some death certificates issued after 1912 cannot be consulted or found. A law known as the "100-year law" in force in Belgium prohibits people from requesting information if they cannot prove their direct descent (we can advise you on obtaining information from the local authorities concerned). This will give you your complete ascending genealogy, by district (your four grandparents), i.e. 31 pairs of ascendants. And if you then entrust us with the creation of your complete genealogy, the amount of the fixed price will be deducted from this new service.
Special case" formula(*)
Tailor-made quote: your ascending genealogy for €20 per hour or €75 for 4 hours. Within this framework, you can envisage, for example, research in the documents of the Notaries deposited in the archives, other research of particular files in archives specialized in Justice, etc..., research of burials in the cemeteries, etc....

If you choose this option, we will establish the lineage of the ancestors who bear your name over nine generations (you are generation 1, and this is generally your paternal ancestry, known as agnatic). You will then have your family tree, and know the ancestors who gave you your surname: 16 ascendants, the oldest of whom generally lived in the 17th century. This service is available at a cost of €1,000. Any trips to the State Archives of the various Belgian provinces are included in this package. If other trips are necessary, they will be the subject of an additional estimate, which will be submitted for your prior approval.
Results achieved
You will receive by post your paper "Family Book" containing the history of your family, the list of surnames in your genealogy, the list of places and a map of Belgium representing the origin of your ancestors, genealogical tables (statistics) and a paper tree (A0 format) over 7 generations... You will be able to display this artistic family tree in a prominent place in your home to share with your family. This book will also be accompanied by a CD-Rom containing a detailed report of the research carried out, copies of the records collected... and, above all, your genealogy!
As soon as we start to find your ancestors, we'll send you a list of their ancestry as a PDF file.
In the event of unsuccessful searches and confidentiality
As part of our services, GéniWal is bound by an obligation of means (and not of result). However, our association, in order to share with you any disappointment caused by unsuccessful searches or incomplete archives, undertakes to grant you a price reduction in such cases. We undertake to maintain the strictest confidentiality regarding your requests and the research carried out on your behalf. In more "legal" terms, we undertake to maintain secrecy and respect privacy.
Important
For all formulas except "Discovery", a fixed fee of 18 euros per day will be charged for travel of more than 20 km from Wavre, the headquarters of our association.
