The role of the Chambre des Comptes was to control all the accounts of the various accounting officers and therefore had full administrative and judicial powers. This documentation dates back more or less 500 years, and includes charters and cartularies, administrative files, court works, etc. It comprises the most important part of the archives of the Ancien Régime.

Antoine de Bourgogne, born in August 1384, died at Azincourt on 25 October 1415
In 1407 Antoine de Bourgogne moved into the palace, and the first works were limited to completing the extension to the receivers' room, which was to become the Chambre des comptes. An adjoining room had been fitted out as early as 1404.

Philippe le Bon Born in Dijon on 31 July 1396, died in Bruges on 15 June 1467
In 1436. A new house was built, larger and adjoining the place where the chamber then sat. The end of the reign of Philip III, Duke of Burgundy "says Philippe le BonHis extended stays and his court at the palace gave rise to other expansion projects. In 1459, the Chambre des Comptes had become too small.
Pierre Du Chesne acquired a building on the docks. This building, which had become too small, was deserted by the administrative services in 1473, and the Chamber moved to Mechelen as a result of the institutional reforms. During the following reign, the Chamber of Accounts moved to new quarters outside the palace. In 1503, the archives were housed in the "Chartres Tower" on the old city wall. This tower was destroyed in 1761 due to its dilapidated state, and the archives were moved to part of the Jesuit College. They then moved to a new building in the left wing of the palace, built for the Sovereign Council of Brabant (now the Palace of the Nation). It was the first general repository for contemporary archives.
