4 In 1628, Louis d'Egmont, Duke of Guelders and husband of Marie Marguerite de Berlaymont, ceded to the Fathers of the Order of the Holy Saviour, known as Sainte-Brigitte d'Armentières, all the land and income belonging to the Péruwelz hospital, which had been founded and endowed in 1308 by Baudouin de Péruwelz and his wife Isabelle du Roeulx, on condition that they found a convent there. In the 18th century, the Brigittines built a chapel (1757), which forced them to incur debts that they were never able to repay. In 1784, their convent was abolished. In 1641, Ambroise de Croÿ, Count of Solre, acquired the land and castle, which he had remodelled the following year.
