He was born on 26 February 1796 in Bruges and died on 20 April 1860 in Brussels. Buried in the Brussels cemetery in Evere (lawn 8, large roundabout, near lawn 14). Married to VISSCHERS Marie Gertrude (born 03 September 1798 in Maastricht (Netherlands), died 07 February 1876 in Brussels).

1831 - Aide-de-camp to the King
1831 and 1832 - Member of the House of Representatives, Minister of Finance, Minister of the Interior and of War.
1834 - Professor at the University of Liège.
1835 - Director of the Bank of Belgium.
1847 - Member of the Brussels Municipal Council.
Between 1851 and 1856 - 1857 and 1860 member of the House of Representatives.
1851 and 1855 - Chairman of the Belgian commission at the Universal Exhibitions in London and Paris.
Between 1848 and 1860 -Mayor of Brussels.
