MAGRITTE René François Ghislain, surrealist painter was born in Lessines on 21/11/1898, son of MAGRITTE Léopold François Ghislain and Adeline Isabelle Régina BERTINCHAMPS. He is the eldest of three children. 
From 1916 to 1920He attended the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Brussels and developed his early research in the field of abstraction. In 1922Magritte marries Georgette BERGER. The couple settled in Laeken and his wife became his main model. He then turned to Surrealism and in 1929, it is close to Salvador DaliIn 1933Magritte began his first research in the field of the object and revised his conception of painting as a form of interrogation of language. In 1943As a reaction to the German Occupation, he began an impressionist period and joined the Communist Party.
