A occis cross is a small stone monument in the shape of a crossA monument, usually erected at ground level at the side of a road or path, at the exact spot where someone died, often violently (criminally or accidentally). Very often a registration carved in stone or inscribed on the cross, of variable length, recalls the memory of the deceased and sometimes the circumstances of his or her death.
A cross of occis, which never includes the figure of the Christ (it is not a crucifix), is not directly linked to the Christian religionand is not in itself a Christian monument.
