Place where deeds are registered. - Register formalities.

Article 40. of the Civil Code. Civil status records will be entered in one or more duplicate registers in each municipality.

Article 52 of the Civil Code. Any registration of these acts on a loose-leaf, or otherwise than on the registers intended for this purpose, will give rise to damages for the parties, without prejudice to the penalties provided for in the Criminal Code.

Article 192 of the Penal Code. Civil registrars who record their acts on simple loose sheets will be punished by imprisonment of at least one month and at most three months and a fine of 16 francs to 200 francs.

The closing form may be worded as follows: "The present register containing (indicate the number in full) records of has been closed and stopped this day of Hui (date in full) by me, the registrar of.....". The registers are sent to the communes by the governor of the province, to whom the burgomasters send a statement indicating the number of sheets required, drawn up according to the following model:
