The Kingdom's General Archives keep the archives central institutions of the Burgundian Netherlandss, Spanish and Austrian governments until 1795, the central public bodies of the French period (1795-1815) and that of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (1815-1830). They also hold the archives of the central institutions of the national, then federal, government from the foundation of Belgium (1830) to the present day, with the exception of the Ministries of Defence and Foreign Affairs.
